Clippy, one step closer to the real Copy/Paste

Filed under: Uncategorized — gomercin @ 10:25 am

I am glad somebody else did it at last (although I would be more glad if it were me :) ). It works as I was planning to do, you can copy/paste between every editable text field. The good part is, it is less buggy then it would be if I was the one who did it :)

There are workarounds for most of the non-editable fields (you can install BiteSMS and choose to forward SMS’s to make them editable, or you can hit reply for copying from an e-mail or you can choose to edit a contact to copy information from the addressbook). Only thing for now seems to be Safari and actually, there is a workaround for that. A javascript can be written which will convert the current page into plaintext and it will put this text to a html text box or something. Than you can copy the thing you want from there.

I will try writing the javascript and will share it if somebody else does not do it before me :)

I am really happy about Clippy :) To be honest, I was feeling responsible about the copy paste for iphone stuff and it was a burden for me as I couldn’t spare my time for iphone development anymore. Clippy is really close what I was dreaming to be the “nirvana” of 3rd party copy/paste for iphone and I do not think I have to worry anymore.

Thank you all for your support for CopierciN, but it seems like it is about to be a history for iphone since now Clippy is here :)

Meanwhile, you can download Clippy from Cydia, needless to say you have to jailbreak your iphone first.
